Two burglars from East London were locked up after a wild police chase in Kent, following a daring daylight raid. Shaun Cloke, 35, and Rio Cox, 22, broke into a home on Cliff Road, Birchington, stealing jewellery – plus a high-powered Porsche Macan.
Police Hunt Ends in Dramatic Car Crash and Foot Chase
Kent Police were quickly alerted. Less than an hour later, patrols spotted the stolen Porsche on the A299, Thanet Way. Officers ordered the driver to stop, but instead, the speedster weaved dangerously, trying to shake the cops. The Porsche slammed into a Tesla during a reckless attempt to overtake. The thieves then abandoned the wrecked car on a slip road and bolted on foot.
Law enforcement didn’t waste time. Both men were caught and charged the next day. Stolen jewellery and the Porsche were recovered and returned to the terrified victim.
Guilty Pleas and Prison Sentences
- Cloke and Cox admitted burglary and aggravated vehicle taking at Canterbury Crown Court.
- Cox also pleaded guilty to dangerous driving.
- On 1 April, Cloke was jailed for 26 months.
- Cox received 24 months, including time for two prior Sussex burglaries.
Detective Constable Casey Prior blasted the pair: “Cloke and Cox showed blatant contempt for the law, for the victims whose home they violated, and for every member of the public placed in danger by their reckless attempt to flee. Driving a stolen high-powered car at speed and colliding with another vehicle demonstrates the sheer level of risk they were willing to inflict on innocent people.” “Thanks to the decisive actions of our officers, these brazen criminals were swiftly detained. The prison sentences handed down send a clear message: criminals who think they can come into Kent, commit burglaries and tear through our roads with no regard for others should expect to be relentlessly pursued and held to account.”
