12 Warrants Executed in Massive Crackdown on West London Money Laundering

The Met Police and HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) have launched a major strike against corrupt Money Service Businesses (MSBs) in west London. Over the past week, officers executed 12 warrants targeting MSBs suspected of laundering drug money.

Joint Sting Targets Crime-Funded Cash Flows

The week-long operation, conducted alongside the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), uncovered numerous breaches of money laundering laws. Some MSBs were found trading illegally, without HMRC registration. Authorities are now moving to impose penalties and pursue criminal charges.

Besides the raids, police also visited 40 other MSBs to ensure compliance. Business owners received advice on protecting themselves from criminal exploitation.

£100k Cash Seized in Dramatic London Arrests

On 3 July, police swooped on a cash handover in central London, arresting two men caught with £100,000 in unregistered MSB funds. Both suspects have been charged under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.

Met Chief Sounds Alarm on MSBs Fueled by Crime

“Criminally complicit MSBs act as a driver for serious and organised crime in London,” said Detective Chief Superintendent Mick Gallagher. “They help launder drug money, fuelling violence on our streets and damaging the UK’s financial reputation.”

“This operation shows the power of joint efforts between the MPS, HMRC, FCA, and others to tackle these illegal businesses.”

HMRC Warns: Obey the Law or Face the Consequences

Simon York, Director of HMRC’s Fraud Investigation Service, added: “This isn’t just about breaking rules — it’s about aiding the worst criminals laundering their profits. If MSBs flout money laundering laws, we will find and stop them.”

“Anyone with info should call our Fraud Hotline on 0800 788 887.”

This crackdown signals the start of ongoing efforts to clean up London’s financial underworld and hit organised crime where it hurts most.
