A 14-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of rape and remains in police custody. The disturbing incident took place on April 22, around 4pm, near Westleigh Park in Leigh. The victim, also 14, was walking along a footpath when a male dragged her into nearby bushes and attacked her.
Police Launch Swift Investigation
Superintendent Mark Kenny of Greater Manchester Police’s Wigan District revealed the fast-moving probe led to the arrest. He reassured locals there is no ongoing threat to the community:
“While people in the area will continue to see an increased police presence this evening and over the coming days, I would like to stress that we don’t consider there to be any wider threat to the public following this attack.”
He added that authorities are not looking for anyone else linked to the crime but urged anyone with information to step forward.
Appeal for Information
“I’d like to encourage anyone with information to still get in touch, if you have not done so already,” Kenny said. The victim is now receiving specialist care, and police continue to support her and her family.
