Tragic Death on Winston Churchill Avenue: Pedestrian Killed in Hit-and-Run
Police are hunting witnesses after a fatal smash on Winston Churchill Avenue last night (3 August).
At 9.32pm, officers were called to a collision between a blue Vauxhall Corsa and a pedestrian. The victim, a 55-year-old woman from Southsea, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family have been informed and are receiving support from specialist officers.
Two Arrested After Driver Flees Scene
The Vauxhall Corsa fled the scene but was found nearby. Two people inside were arrested on multiple charges:
- A 32-year-old man from Cosham is held on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving over the alcohol limit, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and two counts of drug driving.
- A 36-year-old woman from Cosham faces charges of dangerous driving, causing death by dangerous driving, and driving over the alcohol limit.
Both remain in custody as investigations continue.
Police Seek Witnesses and Dash Cam Footage
Police closed both lanes of Winston Churchill Avenue between Victoria Road North and Isambard Brunel Road while dealing with the crash. The road has now reopened.
