Blaze Breaks Out in Basingstoke Recycling Site: 80 Tonnes of Rubbish on Fire

Fire Erupts at Chineham Recycling Plant

Firefighters sprang into action just after 10pm on the night of 29 August, battling a large blaze at a recycling site near Chineham, just outside Basingstoke. The fire broke out in the tipping hall where household rubbish is stored.

Massive Effort to Douse 80 Tonnes of Burning Waste

About 80 tonnes of household rubbish went up in flames. Crews deployed a digger and other heavy machinery to dig through the smouldering heap and put the fire out. At the peak overnight, around 50 firefighters were on the scene. Currently, about 15 remain, working tirelessly to fully extinguish the flames.

No Injuries or Public Danger

Thankfully, no one has been hurt during the incident. There is also no risk to the public despite the intense blaze. Firefighters are expected to stay on site throughout the day of 30 August, carefully managing the aftermath.
