Meth Lab Blaze in New Cross Flat Sparks Arrest and Major Road Chaos

Blaze Breaks Out at New Cross Flat Suspected to Be a Meth Lab

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters raced to tackle a fierce fire at a flat above a shop on Batavia Mews, New Cross. The blaze has gutted most of a five-roomed flat on the third floor, with suspicion it was caused by a drugs factory.

Major Road Closure Causes Chaos

Station Commander James Ryan, on the scene, confirmed: “The A2 New Cross Road, from Lewisham Way junction to New Cross Gate railway station, was closed but has now reopened. However, motorists are advised to avoid the area due to ongoing disruption.”

The London Fire Brigade were called at 1.34pm, sending crews from New Cross, Deptford, Old Kent Road, and Lewisham stations.

Police Make Arrest Amid Drug Lab Claims

While the exact cause is unconfirmed, one resident claims the fire broke out in a methamphetamine lab inside one of the rooms. Police have arrested a man connected to the incident, removing him in a van covered with a silver sheet.

The Met Police have been approached for comment. More updates to follow.
