Police Dog Sniffs Out €30,000 Cash Stash in Channel Tunnel Van
A police sniffer dog has uncovered a staggering €30,000 hidden in a van at the Channel Tunnel terminal in Folkestone.
Sniffer Dog Ronnie’s Nose Gets the Job Done
During a routine stop on the morning of Thursday 24 May 2018, Police Dog Ronnie alerted officers to a hidden cash trove inside the van. The money was cleverly concealed in a secret compartment operated by a pulley system. The cash was seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
Driver Arrested on Suspicion of Money Laundering
The 39-year-old driver from Guildford, Surrey, was promptly arrested. He now faces suspicion of money laundering but has been released pending further investigation.

“People who attempt to leave or enter the UK with vast sums of money are always likely to arouse suspicion, especially when it appears attempts have been made to hide that money away,” said Detective Sergeant Dan Barker of Kent Police.
He added: “Fortunately, not much gets past the noses of our specialist sniffer dogs, who form a vital part of day-to-day policing across the county. We are actively investigating this discovery while continuing to disrupt organised crime groups profiting from illegal cash flows.”
