London Erupts in Violence on Remembrance Day as Police Clash with Right-Wing Protesters
Home Secretary Slams Violence and Hate on London Streets
Home Secretary Suella Braverman has condemned the recent violent clashes that shook London during Remembrance Day events. Tensions boiled over between police and right-wing groups, sparking chaos as the capital struggled to contain the unrest.
Met Police Describe Chaos as ‘Extreme’ Amid Protest Turmoil
The Metropolitan Police labelled the violence “extreme,” linking it to the fierce political battles surrounding protest policing. The clashes overshadowed nationwide remembrance events and sent shockwaves through public safety discussions.
Braverman Takes Aim at Hate March and Police Under Fire
Braverman defended the police on social media, tweeting: “Our brave police officers deserve the thanks of every decent citizen for their professionalism in the face of violence and aggression from protesters and counter-protesters yesterday. That multiple officers were injured doing their duty is an outrage.”
She slammed the pro-Palestinian march, calling it a “hate march” rife with “sick, inflammatory and, in some cases, clearly criminal chants, placards and paraphernalia.” She added, “Antisemitism and other forms of racism together with the valorizing of terrorism on such a scale is deeply troubling.”
Rising Hate on London Streets Demands Tougher Action
Braverman warned, “This can’t go on. Week by week, the streets of London are being polluted by hate, violence, and antisemitism. Members of the public are being mobbed and intimidated. Jewish people in particular feel threatened. Further action is necessary.”
Rights and Lefts Collide – Tommy Robinson Leads Right-Wing Fracas
Right-wing groups, spearheaded by former English Defence League leader Tommy Robinson, clashed with police around the Cenotaph and beyond, resulting in numerous arrests. By contrast, the pro-Palestinian protest reportedly drew around 300,000 peaceful attendees. Police confirmed most of the 126 arrests on Saturday involved right-wing counter-protesters.
Braverman Calls for Urgent Measures to Restore Order and Protect Communities
The Home Secretary’s hard-hitting statement underscores the urgent need to tackle hate-fuelled violence in London, protect vulnerable communities—particularly the Jewish population—and safeguard the city’s public order amid a volatile protest climate.
