Fatal HGV Collision Shuts Down EcoPark Site

A man in his 50s has died following a serious collision involving an HGV lorry at the Edmonton EcoPark construction site on November 23. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency services were called shortly after 3pm.

The Met Police have launched an investigation, with the man’s family already informed. Work at the site has been suspended pending inquiries.

Official Statement from Acciona & North London Waste Authority

The North London Heat and Power project, represented by Acciona and North London Waste Authority, expressed deep sorrow over the fatal incident. They confirmed the man was a coworker involved in the Energy Recovery Facility’s construction.

“Our deepest sympathies go out to the departed team member’s family, friends, and coworkers,” said the statement. “We are providing support to those affected during this incredibly difficult time.”

Construction has paused at the EcoPark as authorities and officials work together to establish the cause.

Safety Checks and Controlled Restart Planned

Both the Metropolitan Police and the Health and Safety Executive are investigating the crash alongside Acciona, who are fully cooperating.

Once the site investigations conclude, construction will resume cautiously. Every safety procedure related to work activities will be reviewed thoroughly before work recommences.

The Energy Recovery Facility is the first part of the site scheduled to restart its construction work, as confirmed by Acciona. They emphasised that no related activities will recommence until they are confident it is completely safe.

Acciona and North London Waste Authority reiterated:

“Following extensive consideration, the welfare and safety of staff remains our top priority. We will not restart any activities linked to the incident until we are fully satisfied it is safe to do so.”
