A devastating shock has hit Kent College Canterbury after an 18-year-old boarding pupil was found dead late Monday night. The school closed its doors to day pupils today as the close-knit community struggles to cope with the sudden loss.
Boarding Student Dies Suddenly at Kent College
Police were called to the private school on Whitstable Road just before 11pm following a medical emergency. Despite paramedics’ best efforts, the young man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The school is now offering full support to pupils and families, closing the senior school to day pupils today to help everyone grieve together.
School Hails Positive Spirit, Offers Support
In a heartfelt message to parents, teacher Mark Turnbull praised the pupil’s upbeat attitude and achievements. He reassured that all students, both boarding and day, will have access to wellbeing support, counselling, and trusted adult listeners.
“Given the magnitude of the tragedy, we have cancelled school for the day to give the whole community some time to come to terms with the tragic loss,” Turnbull said.
Kent College’s Junior School remains open with appropriate support on hand for those affected.
Police Confirm Death Not Suspicious
Kent Police confirmed officers attended alongside paramedics. The 18-year-old’s death is not being treated as suspicious. A formal report will be sent to the coroner.
Kent College Canterbury, founded in 1885, is a prestigious co-ed boarding and day school educating more than 500 pupils across five senior school houses.
