Just Stop Oil Faces Fresh Charges as Met Police Crack Down
23 New Arrests Hit London Protests
The Metropolitan Police have slapped charges on 23 more protesters linked to the Just Stop Oil demonstrations in London. Those hauled before the courts on Thursday, 2 November face offences under Section 7 of the Public Order Act 2023.
Rapid Police Response Ends Road Blockade
The drama kicked off just after 9am on Wednesday, 1 November, when protesters blocked Earl’s Court Road near Cromwell Road. Officers arrived within four minutes and swiftly began making arrests. Twenty-eight minutes later, the road was cleared. Altogether, 36 people were arrested at the scene.
Almost 100 Arrested in Wave of Disruptions
So far, 98 individuals have been arrested this week over the protests. Of those, 54 now face charges, including the latest 23. Thirteen others from the recent arrests have been released on bail pending further investigations.
Met Police Defend Tough Tactics
The Met explained: “Section 7 of the Public Order Act 2023 lets officers charge protesters who deliberately or recklessly disrupt critical national infrastructure, including road transport.” They added that the right to peaceful protest is considered before any arrests are made.
