Boater Faces Court Over Dangerous Ferry Near-Miss

Harwich Man Charged for Risking Ferry Collision

Sean Michael Gower, from Harwich Road, Portsmouth, is set to face the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court this Thursday. He’s charged with two serious maritime offences linked to a close encounter with a Red Funnel ferry.

Close Call on the Water

Mr Gower allegedly cut dangerously close to the ferry, just 8 metres away, while navigating a 6.5-metre RIB. The incident took place in the busy Inner Fairway, where he also reportedly blocked the ferry’s passage.

Maritime Coastguard Steps In

The Maritime Coastguard Agency has brought the charges under the Merchant Shipping Act 1995. He faces accusations of misconduct that could have endangered vessels and people at sea.
