Young Extremist Nabbed in Birmingham Terror Crackdown
Rayan Saab, 22, from Nechells, was convicted last November at Birmingham Crown Court after a January arrest by Counter Terrorism Policing West Midlands. Officers seized multiple electronic devices from his home, uncovering extremist materials on each one.
Dark Content Fuels Terror Charges
The seized files contained detailed info designed to help plan or carry out terrorist acts. Saab faced five charges of disseminating terrorist publications on 26 January. In a twist, he admitted to sending one extremist publication on social media back in March 2020, just before his trial in October.
Police Warn on Dangers of Radical Propaganda
“We cannot underestimate the dangerous nature of the propaganda material and the influence it can have; which is why it is so important to hold to account those who share these videos with others,” said Detective Chief Superintendent Kenny Bell, head of West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit.
He added that police and partner agencies are ready to support vulnerable individuals at risk of radicalisation. Early intervention is key to stopping people from getting sucked into extremist conflicts and avoiding prosecution.
