Convicted Drug Dealer Dodges Deportation and Stays in UK
Saleh Hussein Hamid, 25, a German national caught dealing drugs, has avoided being booted out of the UK. Despite his nationality, Hamid barely speaks German, helping him claim “very significant obstacles” to settling back in Germany.
Caught in Leeds Drug Sting – Crashes Car Trying to Escape
Hamid was jailed for 33 months in September 2022 after a police sting caught him red-handed selling heroin and crack cocaine. He repeatedly handed Class A drugs to an undercover officer. When officers tried to stop him driving a Mercedes through Leeds, Hamid ran three red lights and smashed into a metal post before being arrested.
Part of a ‘Ring and Bring’ Drug Operation
- Described in court as a ‘ring and bring’ dealer
- Found on foot with £300 cash and £240 worth of cannabis, split for street sales
- Convicted on eight charges for supplying Class A and B drugs across West Yorkshire
- Admitted dangerous driving and driving without insurance
Human Rights Appeal Blocks Deportation
The Home Office tried to deport Hamid to Germany after his release. But his lawyers fought back, highlighting that he arrived in the UK as a child and doesn’t speak German. They also warned he risks attacks from far-right groups and discrimination in Germany because of his Muslim faith.
The judge’s deportation order was overturned. A fresh hearing is set for next year to decide Hamid’s ultimate fate.
