Monster Rapist Darrel Rose Locked Up for 17 Years After Relentless Police Probe
Darrel Rose, 36, of no fixed address but once from New Addington, was slammed with a 17-year prison sentence on Monday, 5 December at Croydon Crown Court following a brutal spree of sexual offences. The vile predator was found guilty on seven counts of rape, plus assault by penetration and forcing a woman into sexual activity without consent. This was after a gruelling three-week trial that exposed his horrifying crimes.
Multiple Victims Speak Out
- Seven counts of rape—three against victim one, four against victim two
- Assault by penetration (victim one)
- Causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent (victim one)
Detectives from the Met’s Public Protection Unit took five years to bring Rose to justice. Already behind bars for a separate rape conviction from February 2018, new victims then bravely came forward. One victim had initially reported Rose but retracted her statements out of fear. Thanks to patient police work, her case was reopened.
Terrifying Attacks Spanned Years and Locations
Between December 2010 and February 2011, Rose repeatedly attacked victim one at a Sydenham address. The victim first reported him after he posted nude photos of her online but withdrew her complaint in 2011 due to fear.
In July 2011, Rose raped the same victim again at a property in Luton. She reported this in November 2017, leading to his charge in August 2020.
Victim two, a woman in her 20s, was assaulted multiple times outside London between December 2015 and May 2016. She reported Rose to police in July 2017.
Met Detective Praises Victims’ Courage
“Darrel Rose treated both victims in a derogatory and degrading way. He was both emotionally and physically abusive and this sentence reflects the horror he put his victims through. Both victims have shown great bravery and courage in standing up to Rose and ensuring he is made to answer for his actions. I would like to praise the strength and commitment they have shown throughout this case.” – Detective Sergeant Laura Thomas, Met’s South Area Public Protection Unit
Both women continue to receive support from specially trained officers. The Met vows to keep making London safer so everyone can live without fear.
