Ex-Terrorist Roger Smith Sent Back to Jail for Flouting Notification Rules and Stashing Knives

Bomb Convict Busted for Breaking Terror Laws

Roger Smith, once of Summerwood Lane, Clifton, has pleaded guilty to three counts of failing to notify police about key personal details, breaching the Counter Terrorism Act 2008. The 53-year-old ignored a 10-year Terrorist Notification Order by withholding information on his phone number, email, and passport.

Weapon Stash Discovered After Arrest

Smith, released from prison in December 2020 after serving time for explosives and terrorism offences, also admitted to six counts of possessing offensive weapons at home. Following his arrest on 10 September 2021, officers raided his property and found an alarming cache of flick knives, zombie-style blades, and pepper spray.

Leicester Crown Court Sends Smith Back Inside

On Friday, 10 March 2023, after a thorough investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing East Midlands, Smith was sentenced to 20 months behind bars at Leicester Crown Court.

Detective Inspector Christopher Brett said: “Roger Smith had already spent time in jail for explosives and terrorist offences, but despite the period served and the interventions in place to support his rehabilitation, he proceeded to breach his notification order and even reverted to building a collection of potentially deadly weapons.”

“Today’s result shows the proactivity involved and the extent to which we go in order to protect communities from terrorism. Information from the public is vital to our investigations. If you have any concerns, don’t wait, report them.”
