Milford Haven Man Jailed for Raping Intoxicated Woman He Was Charged to Protect

Anthony Marcus Jones, 45, from the Mount Estate in Milford Haven, has been found guilty of raping a woman who was too drunk to consent. He was supposed to be getting her home safely after a night out – but he betrayed her trust in the worst way.

Police Crack Case Despite Lack of Forensic Evidence

Dyfed-Powys Police pieced together a strong case even though the victim reported the attack four days after it happened and no forensic evidence was available. A painstaking investigation over nearly three years, backed by specialist victim support, led to a unanimous guilty verdict at Swansea Crown Court.

“The victim showed incredible strength and determination in seeking justice. Without forensic evidence, our team worked tirelessly to build a watertight case,” said the detective constable leading the probe.

Night Out Turned Nightmare

  • The victim became heavily intoxicated during a night out in Milford Haven.
  • A taxi was called to get her home, but she couldn’t say her address.
  • Taxi driver Jones – who knew where she lived – was called to pick her up.
  • He met the first cab in Haverfordwest, took over, then raped her in the back of his car.
  • Jones dumped her outside her home, partially undressed.
  • Days later, Jones claimed the sex was consensual. The victim vehemently denied this and reported the crime.

CCTV and witness statements helped police reconstruct the chilling events. The detective added:

“Jones abused his position of trust and took advantage of a vulnerable woman. Anyone who has sex with someone so intoxicated is committing a sick betrayal.”

Justice Served: 10 Years Behind Bars

Jones was sentenced to 10 years in prison and must register as a sex offender for life.

“I salute the victim’s bravery in coming forward. This sentence hopefully brings some justice and comfort. We urge all survivors to report crimes – your case will be handled with care and seriousness,” the detective said.
