Brutal Tunbridge Wells Man Jailed for Beastly Assault Using Tree Branch

Tommy Dunn left his victim battered and bruised after a series of savage attacks—one involving a vicious beating with a tree branch.

Relentless Abuse and Brutal Beating

Dunn, 24, formerly of Liptraps Lane, Tunbridge Wells, was arrested on 14 January 2022 after the woman suffered a broken nose, a broken toe, and widespread bruising that required urgent medical treatment.

Police discovered Dunn had launched an unprovoked and violent assault the day before his arrest. He punched and elbowed the victim in the head, then stormed outside to grab a tree branch, which he used to strike her arms and legs. He also pinned her down and choked her with his hands.

Months of Control and Coercion

The horrific attack was just one part of a months-long campaign of abuse. Dunn controlled every part of the victim’s life, from how she dressed to banning her from having a mobile phone. Isolated from friends and family, she lived in constant fear of further violence if she didn’t obey his demands.

At Maidstone Crown Court, Dunn pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm and engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour between May 2021 and January 2022.

Justice Served: Jail Time and Restraining Order

On Tuesday 11 October, he was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison and slapped with a five-year restraining order.

Detective Inspector Christian Mayers of Kent Police’s Vulnerability Investigation Team said: “Violent bullies like Dunn make people’s lives an absolute misery. This victim was made to feel like a prisoner; she had no one to call for help. Dunn emotionally blackmailed and manipulated her, using fear, violence and threats to control every aspect of her life.

I hope the victim finds reassurance that justice has been served. She has shown tremendous courage supporting our investigation,” he added.
