Kurt Collins sparked chaos after a shop argument on Snargate Street on the evening of Sunday 16 September 2023. The 35-year-old clashed with a staff member before storming out of the store.
Shopkeeper Follows Suspect, Altercation Escalates
The shopkeeper didn’t back down and followed Collins outside. Tensions flared when Collins remained inside his van while the shopkeeper stood on the pavement. Suddenly, Collins pulled over and launched a violent attack.
He grabbed a metal levelling edge from the back of his van and started smashing the shop. When the staff member confronted him again, Collins struck the man with both the metal tool and a bat.
Victim Left Seriously Injured, Suspect Arrested
The victim suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to a London hospital for urgent treatment. Collins, from Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, was swiftly identified by police and arrested that very evening.
Four Years Behind Bars for Brutal Attack
At Canterbury Crown Court on Friday 19 April 2024, Collins was found guilty of unlawful wounding and criminal damage. He was slammed with a four-year jail term, including two months for wrecking the shop.
Detective Constable Martin Aird, Kent Police investigator, said: “This was an extremely violent attack prompted by a petty argument with a man who was just doing his job. Collins left the victim lying on the pavement. The consequences could have been even more serious if it weren’t for the skill of doctors and medics. I’m pleased Collins was quickly arrested and has now been jailed. I hope this gives the victim some reassurance as he recovers.”
