Gun scare in Bestwood ends with BB gun arrest!

Armed cops rush to Andover Road

Armed response officers stormed Andover Road, Bestwood, just after 4pm on Tuesday 18 July. They were responding to reports of a man spotted with a gun.

Suspect held, gun seized – but it’s a BB gun

The teams quickly detained a 38-year-old man and confiscated the weapon. But after a thorough check, officers revealed the “firearm” was actually a BB gun.

Man arrested, bailed as investigation continues

The man faces suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. He has since been bailed with strict conditions while inquiries carry on.

Police urge witnesses to come forward

Sergeant Megan Barnard of Nottinghamshire Police said: “Whenever we get any reports of suspected firearms being brandished or used, we will always act quickly, as we showed here, where we were on scene within a matter of minutes and had one man in custody.

“We know the concern an incident like this can cause in the local communities but I want to reassure you that this was an isolated incident, and no one was injured.

“We’re still investigating what happened here so I would ask anyone who was driving past or saw anything to get in touch with us or make an anonymous report.”
