Moped Theft Crackdown in Thanet: Arrests Made and Charged
A man has been charged and several arrests made following a moped theft in Thanet. Kent Police launched an investigation after a moped was reported stolen overnight on Thursday 3 August in the Broadstairs area.
Police Snatch Stolen Moped, Make Multiple Arrests
Neighbourhood officers teamed up with the Thanet Victim Based Crime Team and swiftly recovered the stolen vehicle. On Thursday 10 August, they arrested four men linked to the theft, after a car refused to stop when officers tried to pull it over during inquiries.
- A 24-year-old Ramsgate man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, and other motoring offences. He is on bail until 7 November.
- A 22-year-old man with no fixed address was arrested for suspicion of handling stolen goods. He is on bail until 9 November.
- A 23-year-old man from Margate was also arrested but later released without charge.
One Charged: Locals Warned to Protect Their Rides
Lewis Tedham, 24, of Laleham Road, Margate, was charged on 11 August with handling stolen goods. He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court.
The arrests are part of Kent Police’s ongoing campaign to tackle vehicle crime and anti-social behaviour, aiming to deliver a safer summer for the county.

- Always lock, chain, and cover your motorbike or moped.
- Consider fitting an alarm as extra protection against thieves.
- Mark as many parts of your bike as possible to help recovery if stolen.
- Park your vehicle in a shed or well-lit area covered by CCTV where possible.
