Crazy Chase on Maidstone’s A20 Ends in Arrest
Policeman Hit After Suspected Stolen Prius Flees
Just after 5pm on Tuesday 11 April 2023, police on patrol spotted a black Toyota Prius on the A20 London Road, Maidstone. Officers suspected the car was stolen. When uniformed cops approached the vehicle at traffic lights, the driver suddenly bolted – sending the Prius hurtling into oncoming traffic and striking a police officer.
Wrong-Way Madness on M20
The driver didn’t stop there. They sped the wrong way along the M20 coastbound, weaving through traffic until crashing into another car. The suspect then ran from the scene, sparking a manhunt.
Suspect Nabbed and Charged with Seven Offences
Officers soon caught up with the driver, identified as 38-year-old Valentas Sluckas, who has no fixed address. He was hit with seven charges, including:
- Dangerous driving
- Assaulting a police officer
- Failing to stop for a constable
- Failing to stop at the scene of an accident
- Handling stolen goods
- Disqualified driving
- Driving without insurance
Sluckas was remanded in custody and is set to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 13 April.
