Camden Killer Caught: Young Men Slain in Brutal Night of Violence
A man has been found guilty of murder after a brutal string of attacks in Camden left two young men dead within hours last year. On 28 February, 19-year-old Godwin Lunghy, from Maple Street N17, was convicted of the murder of 20-year-old Sadiq Aadam Mohammed and violent disorder during the rampage at Pembury Circus E5.
Lunghy faces sentencing on 6 April. His conviction ties into a violent spree on 20 February 2018 that shocked north London.
Two Stabbings, One Deadly Night
- At 8.30pm, Abdikarim Hassan, 17, was attacked and stabbed on Bartholomew Road, NW5, dying at the scene shortly after.
- The perpetrators then drove from Camden to Hackney, assaulting an unidentified man.
- By 10.15pm, Sadiq Aadam Mohammed was stabbed to death on Malden Road near Marsden Street, NW5, despite emergency aid from police and medics.
- A separate attack minutes before saw a 17-year-old stabbed on Aldenham Street, who fortunately survived fully.
Guilty Verdicts and Life Sentences
The Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command, led by Detective Chief Inspector John Hughes, launched a forceful murder probe.
Two other men were previously convicted: Isaiah Popoola, 20, of Grafton Way WC1, pleaded guilty to manslaughter of Abdikarim, murder of Sadiq, grievous bodily harm, and violent disorder. He received life imprisonment with a minimum 28-year term.
Ben Drummond, 20, of Ingestre Road NW5, was found guilty of murdering Sadiq and violent disorder. He got life with at least 23 years behind bars.
Hunt for More Victims and Justice
“Lunghy, Popoola and Drummond went out that night with the express intention of killing people,” said DCI John Hughes. “They pre-planned the attacks, armed themselves, and hunted down unarmed victims wearing masks and overpowering them.”
Both victims were hunted and brutally stabbed. The group’s ruthless violence devastated families and the community.
Following the attacks, Lunghy fled to France, but with the aid of the National Crime Agency and French authorities, he was arrested and extradited to the UK.
He claimed he knew violence was planned but gave his coat and scarf to someone else before going to his girlfriend’s house.
Detectives are still seeking others involved. Anyone with info is urged to contact the Homicide and Major Crime Command on 101, tweet @MetCC, call 020 8345 3734, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Judge Slams ‘Orgy of Street Violence’
Judge Richard Marks QC branded the attacks “a truly shocking orgy of street violence” during sentencing of Popoola and Drummond.
