Arson Fiend Dean Clark Jailed for Nine Years After Wisbech Fire Rampage
Dean Clark, 58, from Anchor View in Wisbech, has been slammed with a hefty nine-year jail term for a reckless blaze that could’ve cost lives. He was sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court on Friday 11 March after a jury found him guilty of arson with recklessness to endanger life, despite his protests of innocence.
Blaze Ravages Maidstone Road Homes
The terrifying fire broke out just before 9pm on Tuesday 19 March 2019. Suffolk Fire and Rescue were called to a house fire on Maidstone Road. The flames tore through the property and caused widespread damage to several terraced homes nearby. Thankfully, no one was hurt in the inferno.
Repeat Arson Offender Faces the Music
Clark was snapped up by police on 29 March, arrested on suspicion of arson, and grilled at Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre. The court later hit him with charges related to this fire and another arson attack from June 2021 in Essex. In that incident, while out on bail for the Wisbech blaze, he set fire to a caravan owned by his brother.
DC Chris Thompson, Lowestoft CID, said: “This was an extremely nasty incident that could have seen people seriously hurt or worse because of Clark’s irresponsible and dangerous actions. He will now have plenty of time to reflect on what he did. He also caused considerable damage to several properties on Maidstone Road, consequently causing widespread disruption and inconvenience for many residents.”
Clark was sentenced to nine years behind bars, followed by an extended five years on licence.
