Bin Blaze Bandit Busted in Brighton
Brighton went up in smoke with multiple bin fires over the weekend, sparking panic across the city centre. On Sunday and Monday (29-30 November), fire crews raced to douse the flames—luckily, no one was hurt and only the bins got burnt.
Arsonist Caught and Sentenced
After a swift police probe and CCTV review, officers arrested Mark Wilkinson, 48, from Crawley. He faced three counts of arson. At Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (2 December), Wilkinson pleaded guilty and was slammed with a six-month jail sentence.
Police Warn Against Dangerous Fire-Starting
Detective Inspector Glenn Taylor said: “Deliberately starting fires is extremely dangerous and it is fortunate that nobody was hurt as a result of these incidents.”
“Wilkinson caused multiple fires in busy areas with no regard for the safety and welfare of the local community which is completely unacceptable.”
“We are pleased the courts have acknowledged the seriousness of these offences by jailing him for six months.”
