Man Jailed for Murder After ‘Hit-and-Shoot’ Shocker in Ilford
Mushin Mohamed, 26, from Leytonstone Road, E15, was locked up at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, June 14. He was found guilty of murder and attempted murder just a day earlier. His accomplice, Tyrelle Joseph, 21, of Banks Way, E12, got seven years for helping the offenders.
Victim Knocked Off Bike Then Shot in Head
On November 1, 2020, at 10.14pm, police rushed to Balfour Road, Ilford, after reports of a disturbance. There they found Jason Diallo, 30, with serious injuries after being hit by a speeding car while cycling.
An eyewitness revealed two men jumped from the car, shot Jason in the head, then sped off. Despite emergency crews’ best efforts, Jason died at the scene.
Second Shooting Linked to Same Gun
Just 15 minutes later, police were called to Garvary Road, E16, five miles away, where a 27-year-old man was shot in the shoulder. The victim told officers two men in a car followed and shot him while he stood outside a shop.
The getaway car, a stolen Ford S-Max with false plates, was found ablaze in Solent Rise, E13, at around 11.45pm. CCTV and forensic evidence linked the car and the same gun to both shootings.
Key Suspect Caught by DNA, Accomplice Aids Escape
Mohamed was identified via DNA on clothes recovered from the burned car. Phone data and CCTV proved he, along with two unknown men, were in the vehicle that night. Joseph was a crucial player, arranging transport so the shooters could change clothes and laying low afterwards.
Innocent Victims, No Motive Found
“Our investigation found both victims were innocent men randomly targeted in senseless acts,” said Detective Chief Inspector Kelly Allen. “No link or motive has been found.”
She added, “Thanks to the bravery of the second victim and thorough police work, two dangerous men are now behind bars. London is safer for it. We are still looking for others involved.”
Wife’s Heartbreaking Tribute to Jason
“The night Jason was brutally murdered will haunt me forever,” said his wife, who wished to stay anonymous. “He had the kindest heart. Losing him on that street, not being able to say goodbye—it breaks me.”
Jason was a devoted dad to two young children, including a newborn, and a beloved son and brother. “They’ll carry the pain of his loss for life. Knowing the killers face years behind bars brings some comfort.”
