Friendstab Horror: Man Gets Nearly 15 Years for Killing Mate with Carving Knife

Manslaughter Sentencing Rocks East London

George Ferrier, 30, of Appleby Road, E16, was slammed with 14 years and 10 months behind bars at the Old Bailey. The sentence came after Ferrier was found guilty of manslaughter for the brutal stabbing of 33-year-old Steven Fry.

The fatal attack took place in the early hours of 10 September 2021 following a heated row.

Tragic Fight Over Girlfriend’s Drunk Driving

Ferrier and Steven had known each other for years. They were at a friend’s home on Ringlet Close, Newham, when tensions boiled over. The fight erupted after Steven drove his girlfriend’s car under the influence of alcohol.

In a flash, Ferrier grabbed a carving knife from the kitchen and stabbed Steven in the chest and leg.

Steven died at the scene despite paramedics rushing to save him. The post-mortem revealed fatal stab wounds to his chest and knee.

Fugitive Flees, Then Surrenders

After the attack, Ferrier dumped the murder weapon in a nearby bin and went on the run for 12 days. He destroyed his clothes and phone, trying to wipe away any trace of the crime.

Eventually, he handed himself over to the cops. Ferrier claimed he acted in self-defence, fearing Steven was about to attack.

Heartbreaking Family Tribute to Steven

“Steven was a son, a brother, an uncle, and a friend to many, including the person who took his life,” said his sister Carly.

“When I was told he died, I screamed endlessly. Then came the worst moment—calling our mum to say her youngest son had been murdered. I could hear her heart breaking over the phone.”

“We know his last moments were filled with fear, panic, and pain. He was alone. There’s no closure; we will carry this pain forever.”

Detective Inspector Frank Copley, who led the investigation, added: “This tragic incident has left a family utterly bereft. We hope the family finds some comfort knowing justice has been served.”
