Man Bites Cop’s Ear Off in Savage Drug Arrest Brawl
Kalvin Stemp launched a brutal attack on police after being stopped for drugs in Maidstone town centre. The 25-year-old bit an officer’s ear right off, spat in his face, and resisted arrest – sparking a violent struggle involving several associates.
Violent Chaos on Medway Street
On the evening of 6 November 2021, two officers on patrol caught the strong smell of cannabis wafting from Stemp. When they tried to detain him for a search, the situation quickly exploded. Stemp tried to make a run for it, and his mates joined in, pushing, kicking, and punching the officers to help him escape.
Despite being outnumbered, the officers held their ground — until Stemp headbutted one cop and launched a savage bite through his right ear, exposing cartilage. He also bit the officer’s arm and spat in his face and hair.
Three Arrested, Hard Justice Served
- Stemp fled with associates Andrew Smith and Daniel Colegate but all were caught days later.
- Stemp pleaded guilty to two assaults, including causing grievous bodily harm with intent, plus escaping lawful custody.
- He was slammed with a jail sentence of three years and two months on 14 October.
- Smith, 50, got a 12-month community order with an electronic curfew after admitting assault on an emergency worker.
- Colegate, 25, received 15 months community order and 200 hours unpaid work for two assaults.
Police Chief Condemns Violence
“The violence and aggression shown was simply appalling,” said Chief Inspector Mark McLellan.
“Stemp’s bite was so vicious, the officer’s ear cartilage was left exposed and may leave lasting scars. This shows clearly violence against emergency workers won’t be tolerated.
“Being assaulted is never just part of the job. We will always bring offenders to justice who leave our officers with cuts, bruises, bites, and emotional trauma.”
