Madison Wright Murder Case: Killer Partner Caught After Brutal Crime

A major police hunt exploded after 30-year-old Madison Wright vanished on July 22, 2022. Just days later, her partner Garry Bennett was hauled in, suspected of murder.

Damning Phone Messages Expose Toxic Relationship

While in custody, officers uncovered chilling texts on Bennett’s phone. Madison had felt trapped and controlled in their relationship and desperately wanted to escape. Further investigations nailed Bennett as key in her disappearance.

Then, on July 30, Essex Police made a heartbreaking discovery – Madison’s body was found dumped in Wat Tyler Country Park.

Specialist Team Builds Ironclad Case

Nearly 100 police officers teamed up with forensic experts – including a botanist, entomologist, and anthropologist – to crack what happened to Madison. Their thorough work led to Bennett being charged with her murder on July 31 and swiftly remanded.

The trial, which kicked off at basildon-crown-court/" title="Basildon Crown Court" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Basildon Crown Court on March 13, revealed Bennett frantically searched the internet for “incidents in Basildon today” and info on Wat Tyler Park. He messaged Madison’s family, claiming he would never hurt her and said he’d been searching “our place,” Wat Tyler Country Park, for her.

Quick Jury Verdict & Life Sentence

After just two and a half hours of deliberation, the jury found Bennett guilty of murder. The judge slammed it as “one of the most overwhelming and distressing cases” she had ever seen.

Today, Bennett, 37, from Pitsea, was sentenced to life with a minimum of 21 years behind bars.

Judge Samantha Leigh praised Essex Police for their “fantastically solid case” built on good old-fashioned detective work using CCTV and ANPR.

Detective Superintendent Rob Kirby called Bennett “a schemer, a liar and a murderer,” paying tribute to Madison and condemning Bennett’s cowardice. “Madison was a victim of domestic abuse and controlling behaviour,” he said.

Kirby urged anyone suffering from domestic abuse to contact Essex Police or support groups like “Next Chapter” for help.

Community Shock & Support For Family

Chief Inspector Dan Mchugh said Madison’s death has devastated Basildon. He thanked the public for their compassion and urged victims of violence to seek help.

Madison’s family expressed heartfelt thanks to Essex Police and all witnesses who helped bring justice for their loved one.
