Bournemouth Man Sentenced and Monitored for Terrorism Offences
Robert Gregory, 24, from Bournemouth, has been sentenced at Winchester Crown Court and will be closely monitored under a terrorism notification order for 30 years.
Guilty of Accessing Terrorist Instructional Material
On 1 April 2021, Gregory admitted guilt to two charges under section 58(1)(c) of the Terrorism Act 2000. He viewed online documents likely to aid terrorism acts, including videos on making explosives and electronic timers.
Mobile Phone Seized After Suspicious Searches
Police confiscated Gregory’s phone on 26 April 2019 after discovering troubling search activity. A deep dive revealed he accessed bomb-making instruction videos on 13 April 2019.
Police Urge Public to Stay Alert
“We will always act on concerns raised and investigate thoroughly,” said Detective Inspector Lennane of Counter-Terrorism South West. “But we cannot do it alone. Friends and family are often best placed to spot worrying signs.”
“Trust your instincts. If you see someone accessing dangerous material, tell us in confidence. You won’t be wasting our time or ruining lives – you might just save them.”
