£2.18m Cannabis Farm Busted in Mexborough Bingo Hall Raid
Police swooped on Empire Bingo in Mexborough yesterday morning, but they weren’t there for a game. Instead, officers executed a drugs warrant that uncovered a massive cannabis haul worth an eye-watering £2.18 million. Two men, aged 29 and 38, were arrested on suspicion of producing class B drugs and remain in custody.
Massive Cannabis Farm Uncovered
After weeks of undercover work by the Doncaster West Neighbourhood Policing Team, the raid on the Swinton Road building hit the jackpot — a full house of illegal cannabis plants.
Not ‘Soft’ Crime: The Real Cost of Cannabis Farms
Inspector Adrian Luscombe, lead on the operation, slammed the idea that cannabis production is ‘harmless crime.’ He said:
“In Mexborough and surrounding areas, we target organised crime gangs who spread misery across our communities. Cannabis farms provide vital funds for these criminal groups – it’s not a harmless drug in any way, shape, or form.”
“Often, vulnerable people are forced to tend these farms in dreadful conditions, living in fear. That’s why we pour resources into smashing these farms and tracking down those responsible.”
Community Help Needed to Fight Crime
Inspector Luscombe urged locals to come forward with any information on drug farms:
“If you know anything about who sets up these farms, we need you to speak up. You can contact us directly or reach out to Crimestoppers completely anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
This latest bust sends a clear message: organised crime will not be tolerated in Mexborough.
