Tragic crash on Kent coast road claims van driver’s life
Deadly collision halts traffic on Friday afternoon
Kent Police rushed to the coastbound carriageway at 4.14pm on Friday 31 May 2024 after a serious crash involving a white Mercedes Sprinter van and two stationary lorries on the hard shoulder.
Van driver dies at the scene, passenger fights for life
The van slammed into one of the parked lorries for reasons yet unknown. The driver, a 50-year-old man, died instantly at the scene. His family have been informed.
Meanwhile, the van’s passenger, aged 20, was airlifted to a London hospital with serious injuries and remains in critical condition. The lorry driver suffered minor injuries.
Police launch witness appeal
Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses who saw the crash or the vehicles beforehand to come forward. Anyone with information should call 01622 798538 or email [email protected], quoting reference EX/HG/058/24.
Dashcam footage is also being sought to shed light on what caused the tragic crash.
