Knife-Wielding Thief Jailed After Robbing Mum and Baby at ASDA
A callous thug who robbed a young mum while she was out shopping with her four-month-old baby has been locked up for nearly six years.
Shocking Car Park Attack
The victim, a woman in her 20s, had just finished shopping at ASDA in Bull Hill Road, Clacton, at around 11:20am on 16 January. As she sat in her car with her baby, 24-year-old Charlie Anderson suddenly jumped into the back seat.
He pulled a knife, threatened her, and ordered her to drive him to a nearby pub. At the pub, Anderson ripped off a three-figure cash sum and stole the woman’s phone before fleeing. The victim quickly drove straight to the police station to report the terrifying ordeal.
Quick Police Work Leads to Arrest
- Officers scoured CCTV footage.
- They recovered the stolen phone from a drain.
- The very next day, cops spotted Anderson in the Old Road area and arrested him on suspicion of robbery and carrying a knife in public.
Judge Hands Down Tough Sentence
At Chelmsford Crown Court on 18 January, Anderson admitted the charges. On 19 August, he was jailed for five years and 10 months, plus an extended three-year licence.
“This would have been a terrifying ordeal for the victim, particularly as she had her child in the car with her at the time,” said Sergeant Phil Terry from Clacton CID. “Charlie Anderson showed little regard for the victim or her child, instead threatened her and stole from her. He is clearly a dangerous individual and it is a safer place now he’s behind bars.”
“He did at least admit his crimes meaning the victim did not have to relive what happened through a trial.”
