Man Jailed for 19 Years After Stabbing Lover’s Ex 15 Times
A brutal stabbing has landed Robert Parkins behind bars for nearly two decades. The 33-year-old was sentenced at the Old Bailey today (24 August) after being found guilty of murdering 30-year-old Alex Fitzpatrick in a savage knife attack.
Fury at Lover’s Home Ends in Bloody Murder
On 13 October last year, Parkins was at his partner’s home in Prince Close when Mr Fitzpatrick turned up to drop off some glasses to his son. A fiery argument broke out between Mr Fitzpatrick and his son’s mother, who then went inside. Moments later, Parkins appeared wielding a kitchen knife.
The two men clashed fiercely. After a brutal fight that lasted several minutes, Parkins fled, leaving Mr Fitzpatrick collapsed and bleeding on the floor. Emergency crews rushed to the scene, but Mr Fitzpatrick was pronounced dead shortly after.
15 Stab Wounds Revealed in Gruesome Post-Mortem
The post-mortem uncovered 15 stab wounds, including deep chest injuries and multiple slashes. Parkins first ran to his sister’s house then called for a lift to a property in London’s Pymmes Brook area, where police arrested him.
Family Mourns Loving Dad and Son
“Alex was a loving and devoted father, son, and brother to his eight siblings,” said his heartbroken parents, Mary Reading and Mr Fitzpatrick. “He was always there for us and tried to better himself every day.”
Detective Superintendent Michael Branston described the attack as “brutal, frenzied, and sustained,” adding, “Our deepest sympathies go out to Alex’s family. I hope today’s sentencing helps them as they come to terms with this tragedy.”
