Notorious Killer Threatens Man with Knife in Bexhill
Darren Rogers, 45, a scaffolder from Eastchurch, Kent, has been sentenced at Lewes Crown Court. He was found guilty of making threats to kill and possessing a knife. The conviction follows a terrifying incident on 2 November 2019 in Bexhill.
Ex-Convict Wields Knife, Terrorises Locals
Rogers is no stranger to violence. He previously served seven years for manslaughter after stabbing his ex-partner to death in 1999. On that November afternoon, he was seen running along Cantelupe Road, brandishing a knife.
He threatened a man trying to start his van using jump leads, with the help of his sister-in-law. Both victims fled to their vehicles, but Rogers kept smashing at their windows with the knife, shouting threats.
Police Arrest Rogers After Chasing Victim
Thankfully, Rogers failed to break the windows. The man managed to distract him by slowly driving away. Rogers followed, leaving the sister-in-law terrified in the van. The police were quickly called and found Rogers nearby on Bedford Avenue, where they arrested him.
Rogers first claimed he was under threat but then refused to answer questions during his police interview.
Detective Warns of Dangerous Outburst
Detective Constable Nick Arthur of Eastbourne CID said: “This sudden and violent attack was a traumatic experience for both victims and for at least one bystander, who gave valuable evidence. It was clear that Rogers was totally out of control at that point, and it is very fortunate that nobody was seriously hurt.”
