Armed Cop Charged Over High-Speed Streatham Chase
PC Paul Fisher, a specialist firearms officer, faces charges over a dramatic police chase during the 2020 Streatham terror attack. The Met officer allegedly drove recklessly while responding to reports of a knife attack by Islamic extremist Sudesh Amman, who was later shot dead by armed police on Streatham High Road.
Dangerous Driving Allegations
Fisher, from Whyteleafe in Surrey, appeared in court charged with dangerous driving. Prosecutors say he sped up to 90mph from Gipsy Hill station to the scene, drove on the wrong side of the road, and narrowly missed several vehicles. His unmarked police car reportedly smashed into a residential property on Streatham Common North, just inches from hitting a pedestrian.
Two other drivers involved in collisions during the incident reportedly passed out at the scene. Prosecutor Alejandra Tascon slammed Fisher’s driving as “well below the standards of a reasonably competent and careful driver.”
Fisher Pleads Not Guilty, Trial Set for September
Fisher denied the charges and requested a jury trial. His case was adjourned by Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring until September 19 at Isleworth Crown Court. The firearms officer, who works with the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Firearms Command, was granted unconditional bail and released pending trial.
