Rapist Petru-Gabriel Dumea Jailed for Eight Years After Shocking Attack in Petersfield
Premeditated Attack in Pub’s Smoking Area
Petru-Gabriel Dumea, 27, from Chapel Street, Petersfield, was slammed with an eight-year jail sentence at Winchester Crown Court on 4 March. He had earlier pleaded guilty to rape, stemming from an incident on 2 August 2021.
The victim was socialising at the Black Sheep pub when Dumea approached her in the smoking area. Later that night, as she left the pub to find her husband, he followed her, claiming the husband was at a nearby kebab shop. Instead of going inside, Dumea dragged her to his nearby home.
Force and Fury: Relentless Attack on Stairs
Inside his home, Dumea tried to kiss the woman and ordered her upstairs. She resisted, but he forced her backwards onto the stairs and brutally raped her. Thankfully, another man arrived shortly after, confronting Dumea and allowing the victim to escape.
Justice Served: Life on Sex Offenders Register
The next day, the woman reported the assault to police. Dumea was swiftly arrested and charged. At court, he was sentenced to eight years behind bars plus a five-year extended licence and will remain on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
Victim’s Pain and Police Praise
“This crime has had an enormously detrimental effect on all parts of my life. On a personal level it has completely knocked my self-confidence. I doubt everything and everyone,” the 31-year-old victim told the court. “I feel angry about what happened. As far as I’m concerned this has ruined my life.”
Detective Constable Jack Droy from Hampshire Constabulary’s Operation Amberstone team saluted the victim’s bravery and condemned the attack:
“This was a premeditated attack on a woman who Dumea had befriended in order to gain her trust and carry out his callous attack. This was understandably extremely traumatic for the woman. I cannot commend her enough for her courage in coming forward.
“With her help, we secured a guilty plea and brought this man to justice. Our Operation Amberstone team is dedicated to supporting survivors throughout this complex process. I hope today’s sentence offers the victim closure and reassures our communities that justice has been served.”
