Gangster Jodecie Daley Busted After Trying to Hide in Grime Video

Daley’s Face Covering Didn’t Fool Police

Jodecie Daley, 24, from Erdington, thought he’d covered his face enough to dodge identification in a violent 23 Drillas grime video posted on YouTube last month. Wrong. West Midlands Police Gang Unit, experts in spotting gang members, zeroed in on him immediately.

Curfew Breaker Caught Red-Handed

Daley was on a 6.30pm to 6.30am curfew after being released from prison in July, having served half of a five-year sentence for dealing crack cocaine. But he flouted the rules, roaming the streets at night and starring in gang-violence videos that stoke trouble.

Officers swooped yesterday, arrested Daley, and sent him straight back to jail. He’s been recalled for an initial 28 days, but police say they’ll push to keep him locked up until his full sentence ends on 11 January 2023.

Gang Injunctions Target Troublemakers

“Daley belongs to a core of gang members linked to violence and drugs,” said Detective Inspector Dawn Burns of the Gangs & Organised Crime Unit. “We are onto these individuals and doing all we can to disrupt their activity.”

“Gang Injunctions control behaviour with conditions like exclusion zones, bans on associating with other suspects, and even bans on appearing in grime videos – like Daley’s.”

“Our officers recognise those subject to injunctions on sight and arrest anyone who breaks the rules. We also help those wanting to leave gangs for a better life. But for troublemakers, we won’t back down.”

Crack Cocaine Dealer with a Grime Video Ban

  • Daley was caught in a Vauxhall Corsa on Washwood Heath Road in January 2018.
  • Police found 54 wraps of crack cocaine in his bag.
  • He pleaded guilty to dealing and received a five-year prison sentence in February 2018.
  • A gang injunction was slapped on him in 2017.

The injunction, active until September 2021, bans Daley – aka ‘Ojay’ – from:

  • Appearing in violent grime videos
  • Meeting or associating with other gang suspects
  • Holding more than one mobile phone or SIM card
  • Driving cars not registered with police
  • Entering large parts of North Birmingham and the Arcadian Centre

Daley’s attempts to stay under the radar failed spectacularly. Police are keen to keep cracking down on gang crime and putting offenders like him behind bars for good.
