Police Officer Fired After Drugs Found at Home
BTP Cop Sacked Over Cannabis Discovery
A British Transport Police (BTP) officer was sacked without notice after drugs were found at her home. PC Amy Byrne, who is based in London, faced a swift misconduct hearing on January 10 following the discovery. The scandal came to light after officers attended an incident nearby her address on June 7, 2021.
Drug Evidence Discovered During Police Search
During the visit, police met PC Byrne and identified her as a BTP officer. They searched her home and found:
- Two cannabis plants inside a hydroponics tent
- Several deal bags containing cannabis
- A half-smoked marijuana joint
- A stash of cannabis seeds
Despite this, Byrne lied to officers, claiming she did not live at the address and instead stayed with her mother.
Chief Constable Hits Back: Zero Tolerance for Misconduct
Chief Constable Lucy D’Orsi acted fast, deeming Byrne’s behaviour gross misconduct. She said:
“As police officers, we take an oath to serve with fairness, integrity, and impartiality. Officers involved in criminal activity or covering it up have no place in BTP.
My decision to dismiss Amy Byrne immediately demonstrates my commitment to upholding BTP’s values. No one here wants people who act like this.”
A Clear Message to All Officers
D’Orsi urged officers struggling with conflicts or concerns about misconduct to seek help. She added:
“If you find yourself in situations involving criminality or feel at risk of violating our standards, speak up. Talk to your line manager, Professional Standards Department, or Wellbeing team. We care and we can assist.”
