Met Police Officer Found Guilty of Stalking Ex
PC Benjamin Bunsell, from the Central South Command Unit, was found guilty at City of London Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 19 December, of stalking without causing fear, alarm, or distress. His sentencing is set for Thursday, 18 January 2024 at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.
Relentless Calls and Creepy Visits
The drama unfolded after PC Bunsell’s relationship with the victim ended on 22 June. Over the next ten days, despite repeated demands to back off, he bombarded her with calls, texts, and one message. She even blocked him and changed her mobile number – but Bunsell found her new contact.
On 29 June, he called her from a withheld number persistently through the early hours until she finally answered. The court heard that from 25 June, the victim kept getting doorbell notifications in the dead of night and spotted Bunsell lurking and peering at her property.
Police Step In After Victim’s Complaint
The victim reported Bunsell’s stalking to police on 3 July. He was arrested the very next day, then rearrested on 28 July before being formally charged on 29 July.
Detective Chief Superintendent Seb Adjei-Addoh said: “PC Bunsell was persistent and entitled. Even after she blocked him and changed her number, he kept calling, texting, and disturbing her at all hours. When that wasn’t enough, he showed up at her house.”
“He has been held accountable in court and will face the Met’s misconduct procedures too.”
