Shoplifting Spree Busted: Connor Jones Jailed for Nine Offences
Connor Jones, 25, has been locked up for 240 days after a rapid police probe into a string of thefts across Canterbury. The Victim Based Crime Team swooped following a crime spree from late August to early September 2023.
Quick Arrest After Multiple Thefts
The investigation began after a series of thefts between Monday 21 August and Sunday 3 September. Jones, from Shelley Avenue, was arrested on Tuesday 5 September and charged the next day with assault, bicycle theft, and seven shoplifting offences.
Stolen Goods and Violent Outburst
Jones admitted stealing clothing, power tools, and laundry products from various shops around Canterbury. He also snatched a bicycle on North Holmes Road back in April. During one incident, he violently assaulted a security guard who tried to stop him escaping the store.
Accomplice Sentenced
Joanne Jones, 47, of Hudson Road, also faced justice and was handed a two-month jail sentence for her involvement in one of the shoplifting offences on 31 August.
Police Praise Swift Justice
“We understand the impact shoplifting has on local businesses and we work hard to bring to justice repeat offenders like Connor Jones,” said Canterbury Chief Inspector Dan Carter.
“The speed and quality of this investigation led to Jones being jailed just three days after his last offence. I’m pleased he is now off the streets and unable to trouble stores and their staff.”
