Man Jailed for Manslaughter After Brutal Night Out Punch
Jonathan Adamson from Stocks Lane, Stalybridge, was sentenced today to seven years and four months in prison. He pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of David Aubert, who suffered a fatal blow on 2 June 2022.
Fatal Attack in Manchester City Centre
David Aubert was out in Manchester’s Village area when he stopped to chat with two women by the junction of Bloom Street and Sackville Street. Seconds later, Adamson, the boyfriend of one of the women, charged across the street, leapt into the air, and struck David in the back of the head. The punch knocked David unconscious and he collapsed forward.
CCTV footage showed Adamson celebrating the attack with a friend before returning to his girlfriend.
Deadly Aftermath and Police Investigation
An ambulance took David to hospital after he regained consciousness, but he refused treatment and went home. He was reported missing on 6 June by a family member. Police then searched his home and sadly found David’s lifeless body beside his bed.
A post-mortem by the Home Office confirmed that the fatal injuries were consistent with the punch Adamson threw.
Police Statement and Family Appeal
SIO Duncan Thorpe of GMP’s Murder Investigation Support Unit said: “Our thoughts and prayers remain with David’s family and friends during this distressing time. David was killed in a violent, unprovoked attack while on a night out.
“Adamson is a dangerous individual who will now spend years behind bars. I know nothing can ever make up for what David went through but I hope that today’s result helps the family find some closure.”
“David’s family have requested privacy as they grieve and try to come to terms with his death.”
