Teen Arrested After Bloody Brawl at Gravesend Gurdwara

A 17-year-old boy has been charged following a violent disturbance at the Sri Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara in Gravesend. The drama unfolded at 8.10pm on Thursday, 11 July 2024, when police were called to reports of chaos inside the place of worship.

Two women were assaulted outside the building shortly after the incident inside. Officers swooped on the scene and arrested the local teenager. Thankfully, no one suffered serious injuries during the fracas, but police did seize a bladed weapon.

Multiple Charges Laid by Serious Crime Unit

The Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate has charged the teen with:

  • Assault occasioning actual bodily harm
  • Using or threatening unlawful violence
  • Threats to kill
  • Threatening a person with a bladed weapon
  • Possessing a bladed article in public

The youth was remanded in custody and appeared before Maidstone Crown Court the same day.

Police Reassure Community After Violent Incident

Chief Superintendent Angie Chapman, North Kent Divisional Commander, addressed local fears: “We understand local people’s concerns about this incident which we are treating as isolated. Our patrols will remain in the area for reassurance, and we thank the community for their continued support and assistance.”
