Repeat Shoplifter Connor Jones Jailed for 360 Days After Spirited Theft Spree
Connor Jones, 24, from Shelley Avenue, Canterbury, has been slammed with a 360-day jail sentence. Folkestone Magistrates’ Court handed down the punishment on 20 January 2022, following his theft spree across local supermarkets.
£1,900 Worth of Spirits Stolen in Bold Raids
Jones targeted high-value bottles of alcohol, making off with spirits worth over £1,900 between 29 December 2021 and 9 January 2022. The Canterbury Victim Based Crime Team launched an investigation after a string of shoplifting incidents around the city.
Violent Confrontation and Assaults on Police
During one theft near Sturry Road, Jones hurled booze bottles at a staff member when challenged, injuring the man’s foot. His violent behaviour escalated after arrest on 18 January, spitting in the faces of two officers and urinating on his cell door at Canterbury Police Station.
Multiple Charges and Tough Police Response
- Two counts of assaulting an emergency worker
- One count of assault
- One count of criminal damage
- Thirteen counts of shoplifting
Jones pleaded guilty to all charges.
PC AnnMarie Lucas, lead investigator, said: “Kent Police will go after and bring to justice shoplifters whose crimes hit local businesses hard. I’m glad Jones’ repeat offending has been stopped.
No officer deserves to be treated as Jones treated mine. The court has sent a clear message: assault the police and you will go to jail.”
