Driver Jailed After Mowing Down Partner in Margate Drama
Life-Threatening Crash on Margate High Street
A Margate woman has been locked up after running over her partner in a terrifying late-night attack. Kimberly Lawson, 29, slammed her Peugeot into the man following a heated row in the town centre.
The shocking incident unfolded at around 3am on Sunday, 24 August 2019. After a bitter argument, Lawson revved up and drove at her partner on Margate High Street.
Witness Hear Shouts Before Crash
A bystander heard the victim shout, “stop!” moments before being hit. The man suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a London hospital in critical condition.
Police arrested Lawson at the scene. She claimed she did not intend to hit him.
Speeding and Dangerous Driving Lands Jail Time
Investigators revealed Lawson was driving between 39-45mph in a 30mph zone. She later pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving at Canterbury Crown Court on 4 September 2020.
She was sentenced to one year behind bars and banned from driving for three years and six months. Lawson must also pass an extended driving test before regaining her licence.
Police Warn of Deadly Consequences
“Lawson’s reckless actions resulted in her victim receiving life-threatening injuries and he was fortunate to survive,” said Detective Chief Inspector Tristan Kluibenschadl. “A car in the wrong hands is a deadly weapon. The custodial sentence will give Lawson time to reflect on her actions.”
