A brutal armed robber went on a rampage in Swanley, hitting two businesses within hours. He threatened staff with a gun and a knife — and even warned he’d use acid on them.
Gunpoint raid at Domino’s Pizza
On the night of 23 March 2024, Karl Kaynar stormed into Domino’s Pizza on High Street at 9:40pm. Brandishing what looked like a real gun, he threatened staff and demanded cash. Kaynar climbed over the counter, forced open the till, and snatched around £400. During the terrifying raid, he yelled, “Do you want to die?”
Knife and acid threats at Asda petrol station
Just hours later, Kaynar struck again. At 6:30am the next day, the 42-year-old targeted the Asda petrol station on London Road. This time, he menaced employees with a kitchen knife and a broken paving slab. He even threatened to throw acid at a worker’s face before fleeing with thousands of pounds in cash.
Swift police work leads to arrest
Police caught Kaynar later that day. Searches near the crime scenes uncovered the “firearm” — an air weapon — plus the bag he carried during the second robbery. A knife was also recovered from a Swanley address linked to him.
Kaynar, who has no fixed address, pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court to two robberies, possession of an imitation firearm, and carrying a knife in public. He also admitted extra theft and drug offences, plus a third armed robbery on 22 March, described by the court as the worst of all.
Locked up for nine years
On 15 October 2025, Kaynar was jailed for nine years and four months. Having already spent 18 months on remand, he must serve an extra 86 days for breaching a suspended sentence. After release, he faces a four-year licence period.
Detective Constable Rosie Acton said: “Kaynar’s actions left his victims in genuine fear for their lives. The gun may not have been real, but it looked frighteningly authentic. He held a kitchen knife to a shop assistant’s back and made chilling threats about acid attacks.”
“Had we not acted fast, Kaynar would have targeted more victims. I hope this sentence reassures Swanley residents and workers that justice has been done.”
