Baby Elsa Takes First Steps After Heartbreaking East London Abandonment

A baby girl abandoned in a shopping bag in East London has taken her first steps, a major milestone just over a year after she was found. Known as Baby Elsa, the infant was discovered by a dog walker in freezing temperatures, less than an hour old. She was wrapped in a towel inside a reusable Boots shopping bag near Greenway and High Street South in East Ham on January 18 last year.

Judge Calls Elsa’s Progress ‘Astonishing’

The feel-good update came during a recent East London Family Court hearing. Judge Carol Atkinson praised Elsa’s resilience, calling her development “astonishing.” Steven Evans from Newham Council revealed, “Elsa has taken her first steps and is meeting all her developmental milestones. The social worker describes her visits as ‘the best visits ever.’”

Elsa is Third Abandoned Baby Found in Area in Seven Years

Elsa was named after Disney’s Frozen character by hospital staff. She is the third baby abandoned in similar circumstances in East London over seven years. In 2017, baby Harry was found wrapped in a blanket in Balaam Street, Plaistow. Two years later, baby Roman was discovered in a Newham play area during freezing conditions. Both boys have since been adopted.

Police Hunt Parents as £20,000 Reward Stands
