Knife-Crime Fiend Joel Elliott Jailed for Over a Decade in Brighton Terror Attacks
Joel Elliott, 34, from Springfield Road, Brighton, has been slammed with a hefty 10-and-a-half-year prison sentence. The sentencing came after two brutal attacks rocked Brighton last October. Elliott faced Lewes Crown Court on May 10 and pleaded guilty to a string of violent crimes.
Terrifying October Attacks
The first attack struck on October 9, leaving a victim with multiple injuries. Within two weeks, Elliott struck again. On October 22, a woman reported Elliott tried to strangle her and threatened her with a knife held to her throat. His behaviour was described as controlling, intimidating, and utterly terrifying.
Under Lock and Key for a Host of Violent Crimes
Elliott was arrested on October 22 and charged the next day. The Crown Prosecution slapped him with a slew of charges including grievous bodily harm, robbery, knife possession, threats to kill, assault, and controlling behaviour. The rape charge was left on file but not pursued.
He appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on October 24 and was remanded in custody. During his hearings, Elliott pleaded guilty to robbery, knife offences, suffocation, and coercive control.
Judge’s Scathing Verdict and Police Praise
“You have an appalling record. It is purely luck that has so far prevented you from causing a death,” Judge Mooney slammed. “This sentence protects the public and ensures you won’t be free until your attitude toward carrying knives changes.”
Detective Sergeant Victoria Thornton-Green hailed the conviction as a major win for Brighton’s safety.
“A dangerous man with zero regard for the law has been removed from the streets. This makes the community safer,” she said. “Thanks to the public who helped a victim on October 9, and to Sussex Police teams who worked tirelessly to bring Elliott to justice.”
Brighton breathes easier as Joel Elliott faces a long stretch behind bars for his violent spree.
