British Cabin Crew Busted with £1.15 Million Kush Haul in Sri Lanka British Air Stewardess Caught Smuggling £1.15 Million Kush in Sri Lanka
A 21-year-old former British cabin crew member has been nabbed at Sri Lanka’s main airport with a staggering 46kg of high-grade cannabis (Kush) worth around £1.15 million on the streets.
Huge Kush Haul Seized at Colombo Airport
Charlotte May Lee, from Coulsdon in south London, was arrested after landing from Bangkok on Monday. Officials at Bandaranaike International Airport described it as the largest Kush seizure ever recorded there.
Customs officers found dozens of vacuum-packed bundles tucked away inside Lee’s luggage. The Sri Lankan Customs Narcotics Control Unit released photos showing the huge stash under guard.
The haul’s street value is estimated at 460 million Sri Lankan rupees — roughly £1.15 million. Sri Lanka’s Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) believes the drugs were meant for “high-end local buyers.”
Suspect Remanded as UK Offers Support
Lee has been remanded in custody while investigations continue. After her arrest, she reportedly messaged friends on Snapchat, saying she was held at a police station. The UK Foreign Office confirmed it’s providing consular support to her family.
From Cabin Crew to Lash Technician — Friends In Shock
Once a TUI cabin crew member, Lee recently worked as a lash technician. Friends are stunned by the arrest, describing her as a “hard worker” with “no red flags.” One said, “I couldn’t believe it. She’s a nice girl.”
Social media posts show Lee enjoying beaches and flights in Thailand shortly before her arrest. A TikTok shared hours prior tagged her location as Bangkok. Reports say her trip was a 21st birthday celebration with her sister.
Second British Woman Arrested Over Drugs Abroad
This arrest comes just weeks after Bella May Culley, 18, from County Durham, was detained in Georgia for allegedly smuggling 14kg of cannabis from Thailand. Culley faces a possible life sentence under Georgian laws.
Culley’s lawyer says she was “visibly shaken” and might not have known about the drugs in her luggage. Authorities fear young British women are being exploited as drug mules across South and Southeast Asia.
UK Foreign Office Responds
“We are supporting a British woman who has been arrested in Sri Lanka and are in contact with her family and the local authorities.” — UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office spokesperson
Charlotte May Lee remains in custody as Sri Lankan police probe the drug’s origins, any accomplices, and its intended buyers.
