Ex-Doctor Murdered in Brutal Christmas Eve Attack

A man has been found guilty of killing a vulnerable former doctor in a shocking Christmas Eve assault after a year-long campaign of abuse and exploitation.

Paul Campbell Convicted of Manslaughter

Paul Campbell, 43, from Thornton Heath, was convicted of the manslaughter of 62-year-old Gordon Ogunmuyiwa, a former doctor from Dalston, Hackney. Gordon was found dead in a South London bed and breakfast on Christmas Eve 2023. The verdict came after a three-week trial at Woolwich Crown Court on Thursday, 8 May. Campbell is set to be sentenced on Tuesday, 10 June.

The court heard Campell had been physically and financially abusing Gordon, who was increasingly vulnerable due to poor health. Gordon was discovered dead in a B&B room registered to Campbell.

“Innocent Man Taken From His Family”

Detective Chief Inspector Samantha Townsend from the Met’s Homicide Command said: “Gordon was a gentle man with no history of violence. Ill health had made him vulnerable – something Campbell exploited. This was a selfish and callous act, driven by greed.”

Evidence showed Campbell regularly assaulted Gordon and even used his credit cards after his death to buy an iPhone from a second-hand shop. Neighbours reported violent disturbances the night before Gordon’s body was found, prompting a murder investigation.

A post-mortem revealed Gordon suffered multiple injuries over time, with the final attack on 23 December described as particularly savage. Campbell was arrested in January and charged the following day.

Family Left Devastated

Gordon’s sister, Merion Wood, said: “Gordon was much loved and his death has completely destroyed our family. We thank the police for bringing his killer to justice and pray no other family has to suffer like we have.”
